Gary was a Senior Vice President at Marsh Limited where he had direct responsibility for managing all claims and circumstances notified by law firms insured under the Law Society of Northern Ireland Compulsory Professional Indemnity Insurance Master Policy Scheme. He managed all claims and circumstances under a substantial claims handling delegated authority. He provided advice to insured firms at the notification stage and where appropriate instructed a panel firm in the defence of a claim. He was responsible for setting reserves and deciding on liability and litigation tactics. Gary has prepared risk management articles for publication in the Writ and was instrumental in developing a coherent risk management strategy that involved delivering risk advice to solicitors throughout Northern Ireland. It is recognised the strategy has resulted in increased risk awareness and controls within the legal profession resulting in an improving claims experience and improved risk profile. Gary has a unique insight and knowledge of the risks faced by the Northern Ireland legal profession that may result in professional indemnity claims. He has an unrivalled understanding of what practical steps can be taken by firms to mitigate the insurable risks they face.

Recognising the regulatory challenges faced by Northern Ireland law firms particularly in relation to Anti-Money Laundering Gary has successfully completed the Law Society of Scotland specialist AML Certification Course in order to assist firms understanding the fundamentals of AML compliance and grow in confidence in their approach to meeting the requirements of the UK Money Laundering Regulations. 

Gary also provides expert witness opinion to insurers and policyholders on a range of insurance coverage disputes to include solicitors professional liability.
